The establishment of friendship between Antwerp and Shanghai dated back to as early as 1984. Recently, Mr. Bart De Wever, the mayor of Antwerp and also the president of NVA, which is the largest political party in Belgium, heads a delegation to visit Shanghai, aiming to start a new round of economical and cultural cooperation with its partners here in China.
On December 15th, representing the city of Antwerp, Mr. Bart De Wever and Mr. Chen Yin, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Friendly Cooperation and Exchanges of Shanghai and Antwerp（2017-2019）.
Shanghai Diamond Exchange, represented by Mr. Lin Qiang, president of SDE, and DIVA (the Antwerp Diamond Museum), represented by Mr. Bart De Wever, as well as Shanghai Baoku Culture Development Co.,Ltd, jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation of promoting their diamond and precious metal industry, their rich heritage related to jewellery, precious metals, and antique items, as well as the rich tradition of craftsmanship and arts in both countries.
Shanghai Diamond Exchange is the only official platform of diamond trade in China, and serves as the bridge between the Chinese mainland diamond market and the world, while DIVA is the only official diamond and precious metals museum in Antwerp with rich collections of Flemish jewelry and precious metals. Baoku, on the other hand, operates the private Guanfu Museum located in the Shanghai Tower, and could serve as a platform for housing and developing exhibitions and relevant events in partnership with SDE and DIVA.
With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the three parties are ready to carry out all-round cooperation, including working panels, yearly program of events both in Belgium and China, and a list of co-operational projects in different fields. What people look forward to most will be the collections of Flemish precious stones and jewelry exhibited in Guanfu Museum as soon as next year.
